Your roof has a significant impact on your home's ignition potential because of its extensive surface area. Shake shingle roofs are extremely flammable. Wildfire Partners requires that homeowners agree to replace shake shingle roofs to be accepted into our program. Asphalt shingles, metal sheets and shingles, tile, clay tile, concrete and slate shingles are all recommended roofing materials.
Eaves are the lower edges of your roof that hang over the exterior walls. As a fire approaches your home, the exterior walls deflect hot air and gasses up into the eave. For homes with combustible siding (such as wood), the effects of open eaves are even more dangerous.
Our photo gallery gives examples of how to mitigate your roof and eaves in ways that will help protect your home.
