Eligibility Criteria
The General Rebate Program is open to all Boulder County residents who own or rent a home in Boulder County, including all municipalities and the City of Boulder, to which the eligible wildfire mitigation actions apply. Qualifying work and materials must be used on the property located in Boulder County.
If you received a general rebate in a previous year, you can apply again in 2026 BUT you must perform a different mitigation than what you have been rebated for in prior years.
For example, if you received a general rebate in 2024 or 2025 for Junk Your Junipers, you will need to pick one or more of the other five eligible mitigation actions this year to take part again.

Eligible Mitigation Actions
For 2026, the following wildfire mitigation actions are eligible for the General Rebate:
(Please click on each item to learn about requirements for each specific mitigation action)
- Junk Your Junipers
- Fences are Fuses (five feet of fencing attached to a home)
- The First Five Feet (first five feet around a home)
- Vents for Defense
- Cut the Clutter (area beneath a deck)
- Protect Home Base (bottom 6 inches of house siding)
No additional mitigations will be added to this year’s list of eligible tasks.
For mitigation work to qualify for this program, all work performed and materials purchased must have been performed and purchased after June 18, 2024, when the General Rebate Program began.
The following actions are NOT eligible for the 2026 general rebate program: weed whacking, tree removal, slash chipping/removal, leaf/needle removal, applying fire retardant stain or paint to fences, planting vegetation, or enclosing spaces under decks.

Mitigation Activities
What wildfire mitigation activities are eligible for the general rebate, and what are the requirements?
All wildfire mitigation activities must be performed on a property with a home located in Boulder County. Eligible wildfire mitigation activities are:
(See Fact Sheets above for more information on requirements for each of these mitigation activities.)
- Junk Your Junipers: removal of juniper vegetation.
- Fences Are Fuses: replacing the first five feet of fencing attached to a home with noncombustible material.
- The First Five Feet: installing noncombustible landscaping in the first five feet around the perimeter of a house.
- Vents for Defense: screening vents with 1/8 inch noncombustible wire mesh or replacing vents with fire-resistant or ember-resistant vents.
- Cut the Clutter: Declutter under your deck to reduce the risk of ember ignition.
- Protect Home Base: Cover the bottom 6 inches of house siding with noncombustible material.
If I received a rebate in a previous year(s), can I do the same activity in 2026 that I did in the previous year(s) and still qualify?
No. You can participate in the 2026 General Rebate Program, but you will need to select a different eligible wildfire mitigation activity.
Do I have to do all six eligible wildfire mitigation activities to receive a rebate?
No, you can choose to do one of the eligible wildfire mitigation activities or you can do more than one.
Can or will additional wildfire mitigation actions be added to the eligibility list in 2026?
No. Additional wildfire mitigation actions will not be added to the list in 2026.
How do I identify if my vegetation is a juniper before I remove it?
There are various apps that can be downloaded on your smartphone to help you identify specific types of vegetation by taking a picture of the leaves. Additionally, you can use an internet search to find pictures of junipers.
If I replace my vents, what is a fire-resistant or ember-resistant vent?
Fire-resistant or ember-resistant vents are designed specifically with honeycombs or snake-like patterns inside of the vent to block the embers from entering the vent system. There is the same amount of air flow due to the unique technology behind the vent. These vents are tested, fire rated, and easily customizable to fit any shape within your home to secure every opening.
For the first five feet, do I need to complete the entire perimeter of the house, or can I complete just one or two sides?
Wildfire Partners encourages you to complete the entire perimeter given that doing one or two sides will not adequately protect the house in an ember shower.
